Pumpkin Chai Smoothie

October 04, 2016

Tis the season for pumpkin EVERYTHING!  Are you a pumpkin lover like me beauty? I absolutely love this time of year because everywhere you look, there is pumpkin flavored anything and everything.  But wanna know a little secret? I actually eat pumpkin year round, I do! I love to burn pumpkin candles all the time and I love to incorporate pumpkin into my smoothies, baked goods, even DYI facial mask (click here for deets) . I can't help it, so this time a year, when it's pumpkin proper, I throw it in anything that I can. Who's with me?
Beside it be hella good, it is also hella good for you from the inside out. Here is SLR ambassador beauty Alece, from With Love and Veggies, to share her yummy Pumpkin Chai Smoothie and dish the deets on benefits of why this gem is so good for you.

As the leaves change and the weather begins to cool during autumn, I begin to crave more warming spices. Maybe it’s a learned response from years of drinking Chai Lattes when the temperature drops, but I like to think it’s my body’s way of turning up the internal thermostat to keep my metabolism rolling (you know, since all the summer sweatin' isn’t doing it for me any longer).
But what is a girl to do when she can’t decide between a perfectly spiced Chai and a subtly sweet pumpkin flavored beverage? She combines them into a filling sweet-yet-spicy breakfast-worthy beauty elixir, of course!
The king of fall flavors, the pumpkin, is jam packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that not only do your body good (did anyone say fiber?), but are majorly beneficial to your skin, hair, and nails. Rich in vitamin C, pumpkin protects your skin from free radical damage and promotes collagen production (hello wrinkle fighting action!). The B vitamin content helps calm acne and improve cell turnover and circulation. Caroteoids, those beautiful antioxidants that give pumpkin it’s “orange is the new pink” color can help reverse all that UV damage you sustained while sunbathing and help improve skin’s texture. Minerals such as potassium, iron, magnesium, and zinc (to name only a few) promote healthy hair and nail regrowth #mermaidstatus
Convinced that you need more pumpkin in your life, like yesterday? Here’s what you need to get that gorgeous healthy glow, inside and out.
Ingredients:
1 large frozen banana
1/2 cup pumpkin puree
1 cup plant milk (I used unsweetened almond, but coconut milk would be dreamy!)
3 dates, pitted and soaked in warm water for 10 minutes
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1.5 tsp chai spice blend (or you can make your own: 1/4 tsp cardamom, 1/4 tsp allspice, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/8 tsp ground cloves, 1/4 tsp ground ginger)
Directions:
Add all the ingredients to your blender and process until smooth and creamy. Top with some shredded coconut and pumpkin seeds for some extra nutrients, or get crazy with some non-dairy whipped cream. You do you, boo. Now go on and drink your skin care by trick-or-treating yo’ self to this decadent Pumpkin Chai Smoothie.
xxo,
Alece
