I can't believe this is the last week of 2016... where does the time go, y'all? I mean the older I get the more time just flies, anyone else with me here? Getting through all the family gatherings, the holiday parties, the food ( seriously still in a food coma) to finally ringing in the New Year, the past two months are gone in a blink of an eye. And now for one last celebration to ring in 2017, NYE! Now I am going to be honest, I am not a big fan of New Years Eve, it's never really been my thing. Now in my early twenties yes, I would obsess over finding the perfect dress, just so that I could go out and pay 4x more for a drink than on a normal night, stand in my amazingly perfect, uncomfortable, heels just to end up waking up the next day with my head feeling like crap. Starting a new year off with a hangover... who thought that this was ever a good idea? My idea of the perfect NYE involves me in comfy clothes, on my couch, cuddles from my fur babe, binge watching TV with a glass of bubbly in my hand. I am not having to fight the crowds and trust me when I say, I wake up clear headed and full of energy- just the way you should feel when starting the year off. But nevertheless, NYE ( however you spend it) is supposed to be fun and if adult beverages are on the agenda, here are my tips to avoid feeling like crap the next day:

1. Drink Your H20: Drink water in between your drinks. This will keep you hydrated and will keep you from over doing it with the booze. When you drink water in between, you tend to drink less which is always a plus.

2. Skip the Sugar: Yes those margaritas always look SO good, but all that sugar can leave you feeling a bit blah and full. Instead opt for a glass of wine, bubbly or vodka with water to avoid fueling up on all those empty calories.

3. Eat. Eat. Eat: Leading up to the big night, keep your body fueled like you normally would. Drinking on an empty stomach is never a great idea.

4. Hot Tea! Hot tea is the cure all to a pesky hangover. Try drinking this when you get home for the night, if you forget.. make first thing in the morning :

  • Kukicha tea bag (make per package directions)
  • Umeboshi plum ( pit removed and chopped very fine)
  • 3 drops of shoyu

Directions

  1. Steep the tea in 1 cup of boiling water
  2. While the tea steeps
  3. Place the umeboshi plum into mug with the shoyu
  4. Pour the hot tea over the umeboshi plum and stir well
  5. Drink up and enjoy!

Green Smoothie Challenge

...and  the new year, I am personally going to be putting my health/wellness passion back into action. First up, I am going to kick off 2017 with a 30 Day FREE Smoothie A Day Challenge. I thought this would be a fun and easy way to introduce everyone ( whether you are an avid green smoothie drinker or a newbie) to the world of smoothies. So here's the deal, you will make one smoothie a day for the next 30 days, which will replace either your breakfast, lunch or dinner. You get to choose what meal it replaces, whatever works best for your schedule. The challenge will start Monday, January 2nd. All you need to do is request to join the Sun Lovin' Roots Tribers private Facebook page (here) and email me that you're IN (stacie@sunlovinroots.com)  and I will take it from there. The Facebook group is for us to share and motivate each other. You can post pics of your smoothies, struggles, accomplishments, whatever you would like. I will be posting daily in the group and will do a live Q&A once a week. You will receive your first week of smoothie recipes and grocery list this Friday so you can shop and get prepared over the weekend. So, if you're IN, just email me "I'm In" to stacie@sunlovinroots.com,  and please feel free to share with family and friends- the more the merrier!
